As opposed to the "pressure cooker" of formal music school where students must master an enormous amount of material in a short amount of time, a slow, repetitive approach allows students time to avoid multi-tasking and task-switching (which are required skills for musicians, but for learning, too much too soon can be confusing). Even advanced students would benefit from revisiting these kinds of exercises. Struggles in advanced music theory classes are due to lacking a strong foundation in the fundamentals.
