Listen to my new album, "90s songs for like, piano." This album is my classical interpretation of some of my favorite 90s grunge, emo, triphop, and shoegaze songs. Most songs are stripped down to melody and simple, classical accompanimental patterns.

Notes on some of my tracks:
  1. "Teardrop" (Massive Attack) - extended improvisation at the end.
  2. "Here's Where The Story Ends" (The Sundays) - I'm quoting Eric Satie, "Gymnopedie No. 1" because I discovered that the song actually uses a few of the same chords and is in the same key. I know you'll recognize the quote.
  3. "Under the Bridge" (Red Hot Chili Peppers) - The chorus and bridge are influenced by the keyboard patterns of J.S. Bach.Β
  4. "Roads" (Portishead) - The original song is about what happens after a break-up, the idea that each person will go on to take different paths or "roads." I tried to embody these feelings through repetition because, often after a break-up, there are spiraling and cyclic thoughts that never end (it's nearly a 10 min track). Interestingly, the original song fittingly uses "lament bass" which is a musical trope that is 500+ years old.
  5. "Hurt" (NIN) - This is a cover of Johnny Cash's cover of NIN. The texture begins bare and vulnerable, but the chorus explodes.Β
  6. "Enjoy the Silence" (Depeche Mode) - Uses classical patterns and arpeggios.
  7. "Heart Shaped Box" (Nirvana) - The entire concept of the album started with this song.
